Avira found something when you’re talking to a pop-up?

A little Avira window popped up in the bottom right corner of my screen saying “Guard: Malware found”. I’m hesitating to click on remove because I’m not sure if Avira does this or it is something else pretending to be Avira.

avira will do that alert u when something is not right when u remove it will send it to quarantine hope this helps

Well, there have been plenty of fake malware pretending to be legit antivirus (i mean like the fake MSE and the Fake NOD32, just to name two)

That is exactly what Avira (legit) does when it find an infection… I am not saying this for 100% certainty since the more people like me say it, the more likely the number will change…. but when you have “Antivirus” (no real name … just a generic name like that) says you have … oh … about 33 to 38 (commonly 35 exact) infections out of no where and the only way to remove them is to “install this one and only this one antivirus” … THAT’s A FAKE …. that is from what I have seen of infected computers.

But to get back on topic, You had/have an infection … Avira detected it … done.

After a full scan with Avira (“just to be sure” your clean) … I would scan with MalwareBytes ( http://www.malwarebytes.org/ ) And/Or Super AntiSpyware ( http://www.superantispyware.com/ ) which are the two best (and free, BTW) Malware scanners that scan for malware that AV’s have trouble detecting.
