Free: Avira or Avast!

But I would not recommend any free anti-virus’ tho because they will never give you good protection. Just very basic.

You can get Avast! pro, NOD32 or Kaspersky for around $ 40

FREE?? You have to be kidding.. so now like welfare and medical insurance you want your virus software free too? Don’t kid yourself man, no software that requires the kind of intensive support like a virus software would be free.. I have been using Norton 360 for the last 5 years and I am satisfied. It doesn’t cost much if you consider the safety especially if you conduct financial transactions etc.. While you are at it you should get a licensed copy of Windows if you haven’t already…

The well known anti-virus by most people used is about tens, such as AVG, Avira,Norton, PC Tools, Trend Micro, Bitdefender, Kaspersky, SafeSquid, Acronis and so on. There is less difference between these anti-virus for personal use. The variety just due to the difference of the people’s use of habit.

So in this way, I’ll give you a rank list of anti-virus most used by people. http://www.softcns.com/search/anti-virus_1.html (I personally recommend BitDefender anti-virus. By the way, the address above is a most most discount place.)

My recommendation: Avira Anivir [link below].

And YES free antivirus exist and do work as long as you keep their virus definition up to date, do regular scans and also use a complementary anti-spy/malware program [Antivir has one built-in BTW].

Malwarebytes is one: and a free one too! [link below as well]

Mr. Norton 360 fanboy above is a bit extremist there; but like him, I do prefer to pay for fully licensed products (…at least for my OS and security).

Open Source Clam Anti virus powered by Immunnet. Get the one for your bit version of your Windows. This is the only one I run on all my computers. This is maintained and updated by the open source community, kept up to date, never expires and does not cost you anything. Read about it at the link below.
