look in the web for a msdos virus scanner, norton have one in the CD, it’s even bootable, i dont like norton but i like that feature.

another option is to pre-install a viruscanner in a thumbrive so you only have to conect it to the pc and run in from there.

third option is to remove the harddrive and carry it to someone elses computer and scan it from there.

Use the Task Manager while logged in as another user. This will let you identify the file and location (it should be C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\(Random)\(Random).exe, e.g. 125861245.exe). I then input :\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ into my Windows Explorer address bar while in safemode, tracked down the file and deleted it. A well written virus will infect system restore, so turn it OFF before following my directions so the virus can’t resurrect itself.

Many forms of malware are able to remove the executable part of antivirus and anti malware programs WHILE you are downloading them, so my suggestion is this.

What you should do is use a second computer to download a copy of malwarebytes and then update it. Next, copy the updated malwarebytes to a CD or DVD(if your pc can read DVDs) and insert the CD or DVD into the drive.TURN OFF your infected pc, not restart, TURN OFF.Wait 2 minutes then hit the power button while continuously tapping the F8 key. You want to enter safe mode (WITHOUT networking) and run the malwarebytes from there.

I would also suggest that you install some kind of antivirus, there are many free ones. I have used !avast quite successfully for well over a year, and it’s FREE!

i have researched this as well because i have this (yes, oh no). i seen that it is a malware and which means that once you buy this, it will not only NOT fix the “viruses they scanned”, it will install more spyware into your computer. usually, it offers scans and then gives you false viruses. if you look through it, there would be an apple app (pshhh apple app my ass) then it would give you an offer to buy the full version. dont buyy itt!!!!! and erm yes i know i didnt answer ur question but its just something u should know. >.>

Almost any language will do. Java, Pascal, Delphi, C, C++ and any other language I know can input and output from and too the command line. You also want good string editing capabilities, but any language has that.

I would suggest you choose whatever you are familiair with, and if you have no programming experience at all, start with Java or Pascal. Their both fine languages to learn programming with (although Pascal is a bit old fashioned).

Restart the computer in safe mode with networking – you will be able to access the internet safely without the virus processes running, update Symantec and do a full system scan. Keep pressing ‘F8′ as the computer restarts until you see the option screen to enter safe mode with networking.

If that doesn’t work you need a new antivirus program. Maybe you have an old version of Symantec if it let your computer get infected in the first place? Modern programs will protect you effectively as well as being able to detect and destroy viruses. or you can just run a full system restore which willl make your computer the way you took it outta the box. you can use a restore disk which was given with your computer or if you have a copy of the operating system your currently using. bad news about that is you will losse everything youve put on it. i say to hell with antivirus crap, more that 75% of the time they cant find the virus and you still end up pissed. just system restore it

What I suggest is to get a backup CD or DVD from your valuable files, and then format the computer, and re install windows from your backup drive.

But you can also turn to a friend and use their computer until the technician fixes it. If you want to check your email, you should get Yahoo! cellphone so you don’t have to go on the computer. There are periodic improvements in the engine. Visit AVG or AVAST’s site and look at version history.

Both are fine, but no one AV is perfect.

Norton is badly bloated.

No, there is not a significant difference between them virus-wise. The the free ones often come out with new versions, if you have automatic update on it should update them for you.

AVG is crap. Avira and Avast are pretty good, though. Don’t put McAfee on any computer! It is the biggest resource hog ever!

Try scanning with other tools as well. Actually, it could be removed with CCleaner, as it keeps files in %Temp% usually. Though I recommend Spyware Doctor or Hitman Pro.

I had the same problem you did. I got it all of a sudden. It is not a virus it is malware. The only way to get rid of it is in safe mode. The first thing you should try is to use an anti malware software application like malwarebytes. I have a paid subscriptions to malwarebytes and it did not work. I say you should do that first because it is the safest and easiest way to do it. The next option which is what I had to do is to find and delete it from program files and the registry. You can try to do a search but it will not show up but you can see it when you open program files. If you do no delete it from your registry it will reload it self. search the internet for instructions on deleting it from you registry.

- From the selections, Select SafeMode

2. Remove Registry entries that the threat added. You MUST BACKUP YOUR REGISTRY FIRST.

- Click Start > Run

- Type in the field, regedit

- Navigate and look for the registry entries mentioned above and delete if necessary

3. Delete malicious files that the threat added:

- Base on the given location above, browse and delete the file

- If no location is given, click Start>Search> and search for the files.

- If cannot be deleted, press Ctrl+Alt+Del to access Task Manager, see if the file is running in the process. If it is, select the file and click End Process. Perform file delete again.

But they usually give you instructions for removing it manually which means poking around in the registry (and only people who know what they are doing should be in the registry) and a link to an “automatic removal tool” which is Spyware Doctor. if norton shows no threats, there are absolutely no threats and you dont have to worry about it… ur problem is because when u already have an antivirus in ur PC and then scan it with another antivirus,, it may detect the previous antivirus as security threat because of their conflict… hope it helps

That is not a program if you never installed it. Its a virus, I’ve had the same experience.

So in order to completely remove it, you are going to have to do a virus scan.

The one I would recommend the most is Malwarebyte’s Anti-Malware software, its free and does a heck of a job scanning for viruses (83 versus my “anti-virus” software picking up nothing).

I don’t know. When you stop the scan, Avira may give you the option to remove the infections it’s already detected. Eight hours sounds much too long a scan time, even with a large hard disk and multiple folders/files.

Try this:

Firstly, boot your computer to the Safe Mode menu screen. You do this by repeatedly pressing F8 as soon as you boot up. Once there, use the arrow keys to highlight Safe Mode with Networking. Continue to boot from there, by pressing Enter. You will now see some drivers being loaded. There will be a pause at some point. This usually lasts for no more than 30 seconds.

If that’s successful, download and run TDSSKiller.exe from Kaspersky Lab. It’s tiny, and takes just a minute to run. It hunts down and kills a specific family of rootkits:

Regardless of the results, download the free version of Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware (MBAM). Install it, get updates and run a full scan (still in Safe Mode). This is a direct download link. Copy and paste it into your browser’s address bar, and press Enter.

You should try using MSCONFIG in Windows XP to disable some of the unnecessary programs that automatically load on start-up. Disabling these programs will help your computer boot faster and crash less.

1. In Windows XP, go to Start > Run

2. Type MSCONFIG in the “Open:” box and then either press enter on your keyboard or click on the OK button.

3. This launches Microsoft’s System Configuration Utility. Click on the Startup tab (the tab at the far right).

4. This takes you to a page with a list of “startup items.” Startup items are programs that are automatically loaded every time you turn on your computer. Some startup programs are absolutely necessary, others are simply a waste of RAM.

Remember, disable only those programs that you recognize and don’t need to have running all the time. When in doubt, leave it on.

5. Click on the OK button.

6. A message will pop up telling you that you must restart your computer before these changes will take effect. Click on “Yes” and your computer will automatically reboot.

7. That’s it! Your computer should now boot faster and crash less.

kaspersky or webroot. I was recomended to both of those, i used webroots 30 day free trial and kasperskys 30 day trial. Now i just have to decide which one is better, because they are both the best. They warned me of harmfull links before clicking them, and they picked up spyware and malware that was never detected with other anti virus programs ect. also, kaspersky has a virtual keyboard so if your on any site and need to type in personal info, you type it in kasperskys virtual keyboard.

AVG doesn’t makes your computer slow though its not even worth having it on your system. It wont be able to remove most of the harmful trojans, detect some not so common keyloggers and its firewall sucks big time as well.

Better go for malwarebytes if in case you’re looking for a free AV and for the firewall go with comodo internet security and you’ll be alright.

The new one (9.0) came out. It has speed, but..not exactly the “etiquette.” CNET reviewed it and found that it DOES get the job done, but its detection rate isn’t as good as others.

Right now AVG Free is better.

Right now the newest version of AVG is 9.0, I don’t know how fast it runs, though.

However, one antivirus software alone (even with spyware protection) will not fully protect you from internet threats.

It is best to use a combination of security software.

Apart from antivirus, you need an antispyware, although some antivirus software has already included spyware detection and removal, it cannot completely detect everything.

You need at least one standalone antispyware program, a Host Intrusion prevention program, and a browser protection utility (even if you are using internet explorer 8).
