same thing use to happen to me. It is a virus and very difficult to get rid of.

Answer by TheArfen
Virus, your computer is highly infected.

This method seems to be working for most people that use it.

First

click on Start > Run. Type in the following into the open box.

devmgmt.msc

then Click on OK. This will run Device Manager. In Device Manager,

click on View > Show Hidden Devices.

expand all the devices by clicking on the “Plus” sign. Now try to find

TDSSserv.sys or clbdriver.sys or oUltraf or seneka.sys,

right click on whatever one you found and select Disable.

Please make sure that you do not select the Un-Install option

otherwise infection will be back once you reboot your computer.

if none of them are there do not worry,

it could be something simpler but follow what comes next.

you will have to enable view hidden folders in folder options > view.

Delete everything in the windows temp folder,

C > Windows > Temp

Delete all cookies,

Delete all temporary internet files(not to be confused with windows temp files)

these are best deleted via your internet browsers.

it will save you messing about in the the hidden system files

reset internet explorer,

tools > internet options > Advanced tab > reset .

Delete everything in the prefetch folder.

C > Windows > Prefetch

Delete the hosts file,

C > Windows > System32 > drivers > etc > HOSTS

A clean hosts file will be written by windows when you reboot later.

Note: if you were using a custom Hosts file

you will need to replace any of those entries yourself.

Delete the flash cookies found in the macromedia, #Shared Objects folder.

c > users > “your name” > App Data > Roaming > macromedia > Flash player > #Shared Objects

delete everything you find in the #Shared Objects folder

Run a full scan with this

Sophos Anti-Rootkit : http://www.sophos.com/products/free-tools/sophos-anti-rootkit.html

and remove everything suspicious it finds.

Sophos Anti-Rootkit DOWNLOAD : https://secure.sophos.com/support/cleaners/sar_15_sfx.exe

Then run a full scan with this and remove what it finds.

Super anti spyware Pro : http://www.superantispyware.com/

Super anti spyware Pro DOWNLOAD : http://downloads.superantispyware.com/downloads/SUPERAntiSpywarePro.exe

this has a tool built in that can reset the URL prefix’s

USE IT.

reset your router to default.

your redirect virus should now be gone.

download then run,

tdss killer to double check.

tdss killer : http://support.kaspersky.com/downloads/utils/tdsskiller.exe

(Do not use this first as it has been known to damage some system’s)

.

Answer by Shone
Sounds like your system has been hi-jacked. The virus/malware may be hard to get rid of. Assuming you have Antivirus software, get the latest updates and try a deep scan. Microsoft OneCare may also be helpful.

http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/default.htm

If additional troubleshooting is needed, you might check your Browser proxy settings to see if some unexpected URL has been added. If so, try a Google search for that domain and see if any particular HiJack source becomes evident. That may further narrow down what needs to be removed from your system

Answer by David Vandertramp
You have a virus, known as the “Search Redirect Virus”. This virus will redirect your search results from any major search engine on any of your browsers. It usually redirects to advertisements. This virus is notoriously hard to detect using conventional means.

This is all due to the way the virus infects your computer. Instead of running a harmful process or installing malicious software (malware) it manages to infect a few system files, changing the settings so that it makes the system perform its dirty work whilst it hides away from the anti virus.

The system file it infects is the one used by the operating system to handle the redirect requests. Such requests are usually made by search engines every time you click a link. This step is intercepted by the virus to take you to a nasty website made by the hackers, then on to the advertisement or other random website. This nasty website could contain other viruses, so it is important you remove the redirect virus as soon as possible.

The best way to do this is to use a program called ComboFix. This has worked well for me in the past every time I have used it. You will need a tutorial however, since it is designed for professionals. You can get a thorough tutorial here:

I’m not sure how you removed it, but if it was loaded with viruses, they may still be on your system.

If you have anti-virus software, run it through a deep scan of your entire system. If you don’t, there are free virus scanners online. Here are two:

http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

http://usa.kaspersky.com/downloads/free-…

You should also scan for malware. Malwarebytes is a good program. Also, scan for spyware with Spybot – Search & Destroy.

All of this may get rid of everything, but just keep in mind that you have been infected, so your computer and it’s safety is compromised. A complete format and re-install is probably good in the long run. You could always burn backups of your data and rescan them before you load them back to the fresh system.

Good luck!

Answer by David Vandertramp
You have a virus. This virus is known as the “Search Redirect Virus” and manipulates search results to redirect you from genuine links to advertisements and other irrelevant websites.

Malwarebytes cannot detect, and therefore remove, this virus because it infects computers in a totally unique way. The virus infects a few system files and changes the way the operating system uses the internet via the web browser. Conventional anti virus are not designed to deal with this kind of infection, they are only designed to detect malicious software running.

The virus works by altering a few settings in this system file. Since Google always takes you to another Google website before taking you onward to your actual link, this middle step can be intercepted by the virus. It takes advantage of this small flaw to redirect you. It can be extremely irritating as it only occurs sporadically.

In my experience of this virus, the only way to remove it is to manually remove it with the help of a program called ComboFix. This program finds the corrupt system file and restores it back to it’s original state. You can find ComboFix, with an excellent tutorial, here:

Internet Security 2010 is a rogue anti-spyware program that is installed through the use of malware. Once installed, Internet Security will be configured to start automatically when you login to Windows. It will then scan your computer and display numerous infections, but will not remove anything until you purchase the program. These infections, though, are all fake and are only being shown to trick you into thinking you are infected so that you then purchase the program. It goes without saying that you should definitely not purchase this program.

that is a little bit strange, as norton has been used to remove this in the past, my suggestion is that you may not have logged in as admin when you did this, this will normally not matter, but it may well require that you manually delete command.exe

i suggest you update your antivirus and then try again,

if you are still getting pop ups then it means you do not have any pop up blocker and anti spyware installed at the moment.

update you norton antivirus, if you run the scan and it tells you where the antivirus is located, you can open dos propmt

Personal Antivirus is a fake anti-virus scam and a threat, which can cause some serious damage to your system. It can be removed in several ways, but the easiest is to scan your system in safe mode using a legitimate spyware remover, such as Spyware Doctor, Malwarebytes or SuperAntiSpyware. If that doesn’t work, there’s always the manual method:

http://www.2-viruses.com/remove-personal-antivirus

Answer by John
Step 1

PAV (Personal Anti-Virus) comes as part of a software bundle on many new computers (new as of 5/09). Within a week of starting to use the new computer the PAV program says that you have a virus on your new computer when, if you run Norton’s Anti Virus, no virus can be found. That is most likely because you don’t have a virus; the PAV program just tells you that in order to get you to buy their full program. If you do not want to buy their full program, it can be deleted by following these steps – for some reason, you cannot delete it by using the Install & Uninstall options in the Control Panel. (1) Open up “My Computer”

Step 2

(2) Open up “Local Disk (C).”

Step 3

(3) Open up “Program Files.”

Step 4

(4) Find the “PAV” folder (folders are listed alphabetically).

Step 5

(5) Right click the folder and choose “Delete.” The folder will be deleted and you will no longer get bothersome messages saying that you have a virus on the computer.

Hope it helps you. For more information http://www.iyogi.co.uk

First thing you need to do is kill the process:

1)hit ctrl+alt+del and select the process tab

2)look for any processes called personalAV, PersonalAntivirus or PAV

3)kill those processes by clicking on them and clicking “End Process”

4)Warning may come up saying that this can make your computer unstable, you can ok this

Next delete the files

1)Browse to your “program files” directory. You are looking for a sub directory called personalAV, PersonalAntivirus or PAV.

2)Delete this subdirectory by clicking on it and pressing the delete key on the keyboard

3)If it asks for confirmation, then confirm it.

Next clean the registry (here be dragons, getting this wrong will royally f##k your computer so be careful)

1)start|run and enter “regedit” and select “ok”

2)press ctrl+F and enter “personalav”

If you know the idenity of the virus, Symantec and probably other manufacturers have under support a list of viruses and a program to download for its removal.

Answer by Charlie C
1 Do you know the virus, if so then just do a search for a removal tool off the net.

2. If you do not know what virus it is then you may have to load a antivirus program and hope it picks up the virus and gets rid of it.

3. back up your computer and format the harddrive then just do a fresh load. that way you know for sure the virus is gone. once you get everything loaded back up. scan your backed up data for a virus and delete out the files that are bad.

good luck though

Answer by panalwayscute
If the anti-virus program doesn’t help, you should clean out your computer completely. That is Format C:, then download all the software again. In future, always backup your information!

Note : If you don’t format, the virus may have done some damage to some of your programs and you will realize that some won’t work properly.

Answer by bloody_yangster
virus is very tough to get rid of. i had virus and the only thing i did was take it to Best Buy and had them to delete all the files. then i had to reprogram the computer with the cd’s that came with the computer (u still have it, rite?). it gonna cost u about $ 200 to have the files deleted because the computer geeks have to restore all the things that the virus has done also. after that u can go buy an Anti-Virus program that will prevent u from getting virus again.

oh yeah….no point in trying to get rid of your virus with Anti-Virus. it only tells u when virus are in your computer and before they attack so u can delete them. once they’ve attacked your files, to the shop goes your computer.

Answer by dutchtown4life
basically,

literally wipe your computer system

erase everything and if that doesn’twork take it to the place you bought it from and hopefully they can fix it

First, you need anti-virus software – download, install and update AVG anti-virus (it’s free for personal use) – you can find it here – http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1

Then remove your System Restore points (viruses love to hide in the System Restore files), but be aware that if you do remove your existing Restore Points you will not be able to “roll back” your computer to a previous configuration. To find out how to disable System Restore see this page – http://www.pchell.com/virus/systemrestore.shtml

Just to be sure you don’t have other malware on your computer I recommend that you download SpyBot Search & Destroy and Adware – both are free spyware/adware detection and removal software.

Next, start the computer in Safe Mode – (as the comptuer is starting up, keep tapping the F8 key on your keyboard until you see a special start-up menu) – more on how to start in Safe Mode here – http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/boot_failsafe.mspx?mfr=true

Using AVG – run a full system virus scan while in Safe Mode

After the viruses have been detected and removed, run SpyBot and AdAware (full system scans) then restart the comptuer, enable System Restore again and enjoy a virus-free computing experience.

If the problems are still there, try using MSCONFIG to help figure out how to manually disable the Trojan from starting up – see more about MSCONFIG here – http://netsquirrel.com/msconfig/

To help protect against malware you should install a firewall, Zone Alarm works perfectly well and is free – http://www.zonealarm.com/store/content/company/products/znalm/freeDownload.jsp

Also, don’t forget to keep Windows up-to-date – using Microsoft Windows Update!

After following these instructions go to: http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/Must-Read-Before-Posting-Hijackthis-Log-t2852.html they will help you for free, no credit card or personal information needed, and they will analyze Hijack This logs for you, to make sure that your computer is safe. HijackThis helps If persistent spyware is bogging down your computer, you might need HijackThis. The tiny program examines vulnerable or suspect parts of your system, such as browser helper objects and certain types of Registry keys. Pressing the Scan button generates a log of dozens of items, most of which are just customizations. Don’t check off an item and hit the Fix checked button unless you’re sure it’s malware. Clicking Info on selected item tells you why the entry was flagged as suspicious, but not whether it’s actually malware. To find that out, search the Web for that item’s name or go straight to a forum, such as SpywareInfo or Computer Cops. Saving the log creates a text document you can post to these forums.

The latest version adds powerful tools to the Config window. The process manager and hosts file editor help you excise virulent infections. The unique ADS Spy tool scans for alternate data streams, which some browser hijackers use to hide from spyware removers. The program still installs into whatever directory in which you unzip the file, which can make it hard to locate. HijackThis is a serious tool for any user who needs to root out a serious infestation, but wield it with caution. So, go to the site I gave you above, and they’ll help you step by step.

Free registry cleaners:

CCleaner does not specialise in cleaning the registry, it’s mostly used to speed up your computer by cleaning up your recycle bin, temp files/internet files, browsing history, application errors, log files and so on.. which frees up some space in your harddisk

I’ve tried these 10 free cleaners

http://www.regsofts.com/freeware/freereg…

I would recommend the following(click on the webpage and follow):

Free Windows Registry Repair(first one) – rather effective, the first scan i did after about a year showed over 500 problems with the registry, fixed them all

RegSeeker(2nd one) – fixed another 300 problems after using the previous one.

and like the two of them said, Eusing Free Registry Cleaner and Abexo Free Registry Cleaner(30 day trial)

Just run them all that’ll fix most problems! But dont expect 100% fixes because programs might recreate registry entries when used and so a second scan might still show the same few errors. (ignore such errors)

those are all freeware, hope i’m of some help

Good Luck!

What’s affecting your computer right now is what they call the “google redirect virus”. It’s not a virus actually but a rootkit which usually comes bundled with some spyware infections. It’s beyond the removal capabilities of antispyware programs. You need a different tool to get rid of it. Run this one:

Here’s the direct link to the file you need to run:

Try scanning your computer with Malwarebytes. Try this:

1. You’ll need Malwarebytes, so if you haven’t already, download Malwarebytes from http://bleepingvirus.com/goto/malwarebytes or http://malwarebytes.org (either one will work)

2. Restart your computer. When your computer starts up, after the BIOS/logo screen, press [F8] and choose “SAFE MODE with Networking” (*very important!*). Install Malwarebytes on your computer. Now update Malwarebytes.

3. Open Malwarebytes and do a **FULL SCAN** (you must do a FULL SCAN) from Malwarebytes and wait for it to finish. This will take some time to complete so be patient. A Full Scan will scan more files and pick up more things than a “quick scan”.

4. Remove/delete all the nasties it found then reboot your computer again in *SAFE MODE*.

5. Run a “FULL SCAN” again from Malwarebytes in case there are more infected files that didn’t show up the first time as generally deleting the first lot of infected files ‘unhides’ more files which are infected.

Let me know how you get on and whether this helps.
