You clearly haven’t thought about this at all.

But you are absolutely right. You shouldn’t use a free product like Firefox. You should buy from the corporations that are dedicated to making money off you, like Microsoft, even if it isn’t as good. After all, why should you give those do-gooders the satisfaction of knowing that they are making a difference in the world? Why, that may give them something to feel proud about.

More generally (non-profit hospitals, universities, etc.), they are telling you that the money you do give them is all going into the product, not into the pockets of owners. All other things being equal (which they never are), that means you should be getting more value for your money.

For small non-profits, it tells you that the people doing it are doing it for the good they do, not for the financial rewards. For most people, that is something to be proud of. (And which would you rather do business with, a mechanic who loves his work or one who is just in it for the money?)

And there are no diseases in the world so why have doctors and hospitals and vaccinations.

~

And there are no thieves either so why have banks to lock up your money, just have it all in your pockets and no need for policemen because nobody robs or steals.

And locks, no need for them. Just leave your house, car whatever unlocked. Nothing will happen to your laptop, or money or jewelry.

All that stuff on the Internet about Virus, and spyware and Malware is a bunch of hooey. No need to protect against any of it. Until it hits YOU.

There are viruses out there and antivirus software is pretty much a necessity, but id guess that most, less computer literate people dont really understand that so many programs they install automatically start background processes on startup that will reduce performance considerably when built up (like itunes sets something like ituneshelper.exe to run on startup). And then theres the people that use really old, outdated computers but expect them to manage with programs/workloads made for the newer, more powerful pcs. Since they dont know about these the only cause they can think of is a virus.

You are right of course, not everything is a virus however to say that viruses don’t exist. I think you being a bit naive. It is alright until you have one and when you switch on your screen and nothing appears because your hard drive got “shredded” you buy all the anti virus software in the world.

Wether it’s a virus or now, if a computer operator does not want to work on it, just say… i got a virus problem!
